Class 6M led Dartmouth Primary School in the annual Act of Remberance.  Pupils from the class confidently performed readings, recited poems and led Prayers.  The Citation was read by James who stood smartly to attention throughout the whole two minutes silence setting a fantastic example to all present.  Mia read Rupert Brookes' ‘The Soldier’ while Emily recited ‘In Flander’s Field’ by John McRae both in an extremely confident and articulate way.  Lieutenant Commander Mules Royal Navy gave a thought provoking talk while everyone in the school sang beautifully and made a field of poppies in a moving procession.

Parents and Governors and visitors, who witnessed the Act of Remembrance, all commented on how moving and special the ceremony was.  It was particularly good to see children who are members of the uniformed youth organisations wearing their uniforms.

Operation Christmas Child

Class 6M worked as a team to produce 8 shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child.  The children decorated the boxes using their own playtimes and worked together to make sure that all the boxes were filled with a good selection of gifts for children in poorer parts of the world.  The class thought about what each box needed and between them decided who could bring things in for the boxes making lists to make sure all the boxes had a good range of gifts.  Everyone was enthusiastic and generous and our boxes were bulging at the seams.  The class also decided that each box should contain a postcard of Dartmouth with a message on the back and a photograph of the class with their boxes.  As you can see they are really proud of the results and hope that it will make some children smile this Christmas.

6M Field Trip to Slapton Ley - Wednesday 14th October

When we arrived at Slapton Ley we went pond-dipping, we got a net, a tray, a spoon and a key of the animals we might have found in the pond.  We found a fresh water leech and a giant waterboatman.  Once we had finished pond dipping we played some games, such as making a food chain and what ever animal we got from the pond dipping we had to act it out in our groups of three.  We acted out a fresh water leech.  The food chain game was quite hard.  We had to organise ourselves into order in the food chain.  After lunch we went for a nature trail.  First we went to a bunker they used in World War II.  After that we went to a wooden bridge with carved animals on the side.  Finally we went into a forest and we found some insects.  We found a centipede!  We also stopped and listened for the sound of other animals.  There were bees, butterflies and duck

 Wider opps music

6M have been learning some Gospel singing techniques with Kip. They have learned how to sing two songs together and in one session learned a song in two part harmony!  They sounded fantastic and everyone really enjoyed the sessions.

Team Building

As the new term started 6M found themselves in teams.  The teams compete for the class cup each week.  The first team building task was to build a chair using only a set amount of newspaper and tape.  The teams worked really well together helping each other and listening and valuing everyone's contributions.  The result- poor Mr Meek came and tested the chairs.  Two collapsed but two worked really well.  Well done everyone.

This one looks really dodgy!
