Dear Parents
There are a large number of events coming up for the school, so Id like to give you advance warning of some of them - further details will follow nearer the time.
Year 6 SATs
Next week, Year 6 will be taking their SATs tests. Mrs Mules and her team have done a great job of preparing the class for these important national tests, and in keeping pressure on the children to a minimum. Could I ask for your help next week in helping your child to get a good nights sleep, getting them to school on time and encouraging them to try their best. The tests have to follow the same timetable across the whole country, so if your child has any unexpected illness or any other difficulty in getting to school, please talk to myself or Mrs Mules as soon as possible.
Bear Hunt
Class 2/3 M are involved in an exciting musical production based on the story of Were going on a Bear Hunt. They have been working hard with a visiting musician to compose and perform a musical version of the story, and it is sounding really good. There will be a performance of this, along with other schools from the Dartmouth area, at the Flavel Centre on 19th June.
Music Festival
We are becoming well known for our singing ability as a school. Next Friday, the entire school will be singing at the bandstand in Dartmouth as part of the music festival. You should receive a letter today with full details of this. It would be good to see lots of parents there. The following day the choir will be performing at the Naval College.
Cycle Training
Mrs Young and PCSO Ashleigh Hawkes are in the middle of planning a repeat of last years highly successful cycle training for Year 6. This year it will be happening after school, rather than in the holiday.
Walking Bus
Continuing with the theme of keeping children safe, we are trying to organise a walking bus to bring children to school each morning. This will be led by adults, who will walk a set route to school each day, picking up children as they go at bus stops. This will allow children to walk safely to school with their friends, with adult supervision. We are looking for people to help with this project, so if you are interested in finding out more, or getting involved, then watch out for details of a meeting on 20th May.
Finally, Mrs day, our crossing patrol lady is on holiday from today until Monday June 2nd, so please encourage your children to be extra careful when crossing the road on the way to school for the next couple of weeks.
Best wishes,
Rik Meek
