Dear Parents
Welcome back I hope you all had a peaceful half-term.
Childrens Centre
I am sorry that many of you were unable to attend the meeting about the construction of the childrens centre at the end of last half term. Construction of the centre will begin on the playground at the side of the school next Monday (3rd March) and continue until the end of July. In order to make sure everybody on the school site, including the children, remain safe during construction, a few temporary changes will be needed from Monday.
The actual building site will be inside a high, secure fence, which will be far enough back from any work that children will be able to come up close to see what is inside. The fence cannot be pushed over, but children will be told not to play with it, or try to climb it.
Unfortunately, in order to avoid any accidents, the fence will come right up to the edge of the school during construction. This means that we will not be able to use the usual entrance to the back of the school until the building is complete. Nor will there be a way into the playground from the current zebra crossing which will be removed and replaced at the end of the building work. Instead a new, temporary zebra crossing, gate and entrance to the school will be built closer to the Community College, which will allow you to drop off or collect your child from the rear of the school as normal. I know that this is slightly inconvenient, but could I please encourage you to use this entrance and not to use the main entrance to the school by the office obviously it would be chaos if all of the children and their parents tried to come in or out of this door at the start or end of the day. I have asked staff not to open this door to let people in, unless they have a particular need to use this entrance. Please see the map attached to this letter for full details.
Entrance to the Nursery is unaffected by the building work.
In order to ensure maximum safety during the construction, the following additional precautions will be taken:
PTO
I will be talking to all children in the school to let them know how we expect them to behave during the building work, so they can keep themselves safe. I would be very grateful if you would reinforce how important it is to stay safe around building sites.
It will be quite inconvenient for us all during the building work, so thank-you in advance for your patience and co-operation. However, we will all benefit greatly from having a brand new, £800,000 childrens centre as part of our campus.
The plans for the centre are currently on display in the school hall please take the opportunity to have a look at the start or end of the day. If you have any questions or concerns about the new building, please speak to me.
Best
Rik Meek
