Welcome to Dartmouth Primary School and Nursery.

"Laura has enjoyed every single day that she has attended your school. She has very much liked all your staff too and will no doubt miss them all (well, for a while at least!). Thank you for all the help and encouragement you and your staff have provided for Laura." Extract from a letter from a parent as her daughter left Dartmouth Primary School.

We are a medium sized primary school catering for 3 - 11 year olds. Standards in the school are steadily rising and our most recent value added scores place us in the top 21% of schools nationally. This year we are among the 100 most improved schools nationally. We are situated on the outskirts of Dartmouth and share the Dartmouth Learning Campus with the local secondary school - Dartmouth Community College, with whom we are federated. The town of Dartmouth is a scenic South Devon town, justifiably famous for its beautiful estuary. The school serves the entire Dartmouth community and we receive children from the town and outlying areas.

The school itself was built in 1974, an era in which open plan buildings were all the rage. Consequently Dartmouth Primary School and Nursery was built with a large number of open-plan teaching areas. We have radically altered our school building to create the very best environment for our children to learn in.
The school staff and I work together with parents to provide an atmosphere of care and high expectations. We want all of our children to develop a sense of achievement and a love of learning. We are always proud of our children's achievements and believe that children, parents and staff are proud of their school.

To achieve our goal, we encourage an honest and open liaison between home and school, which helps to develop mutual trust and confidence in all that we do. You know your children best; I will always find time to deal with any issues or problems that parents bring to me.

As a school we are committed to self-improvement and we are constantly looking for ways to improve our teaching, modernise our buildings and provide more experiences for our children. This is a very exciting time for Dartmouth Primary School.
I hope that you find this web site interesting and informative. Dartmouth Primary School is a constantly developing school. We will do our utmost to ensure that your child has a happy and successful primary school career and reaches his/her full potential. Please feel free to comment on this web site, and indeed, any of our school practice. It is only through discussion with parents and children that I am able to judge the needs of our school community. Together we will make this school as good as it can be!
