A Great Result For Both Primary Schools In Dartmouth

It was a long journey in horrible weather conditions, but one that was well worth while for the two Dartmouth Primary Schools who went to compete with six other teams from Devon in the Rotary Club Regional Final at Blundell’s School in Tiverton on Saturday 27th February 2010.

Mia, Georgia and Emily supported by their reserve Oliva made the journey to Tiverton having narrowly won the Dartmouth heat of the competition in January after which both teams went through to the regional finals.

The Dartmouth Primary School girls spoke passionately about their concerns about the Shops in Dartmouth in their talk; ‘What do the shops in Dartmouth have to offer the young people of the town?’  Georgia once again chaired the presentation in a confident and business like manner.  Mia, as the main speaker delivered her speech in a highly animated way which kept the audience entertained throughout. Emily gave the vote of thanks, again in a very proficient and confident manner.

All the girls including Olivia, who was vital in learning the speeches in case someone was ill, have worked very hard in preparation for the competition.

The standard of all the talks was high and the judges struggled to come to their decision.  When the results were announced the Dartmouth Primary School team had to settle for second place with the team from St John the Baptist just pipping them to the post this time.

Our congratuatlations go to Mia, Georgia and Emily on a fantastic result with special congratulations going to Mia who was awarded the prize as the best speaker in the competition.

I know that all the girls wanted to thank Mr Mules, Mrs Long and Mrs Mules for their help in their preparations.

I am sure we all send our congatulations to the team from St John the Baptist on the victory and look forward to the competition next year!

A close run thing!
